Well Women

Information and links to services for women to address their specific health needs.

‘Well Women’ aims to increase current low participation rates in pap screening and breast screening in women living in Moreland, with a particular focus on women from CALD backgrounds.  The event is held in conjunction with support from Women’s Health in the North, Moreland City Council, North West Breastscreen, Multicultural Women’s Health, Spectrum and local female GPs. In previous years Arabic and Assyrian women have been involved. In 2008/2009 we’ve received a grant from PapScreen Victoria and there will be a particular focus on Urdu speaking women.  This year’s activities will include:

  • Designing an information ‘postcard’ containing accurate and culturally appropriate messages using the language and wording from Urdu women. This information will be gathered from consultations with local Urdu women. The postcards will be distributed to a range of relevant agencies within the community e.g. Community Health Centres, GP clinics, libraries and specific CALD community outlets.
  • Promoting referral pathways via a referral form for female papscreen providers. The referral form will be available through the Fawkner and Glenroy, to be faxed through to local female GPs.

Conducting a ‘Well Women’ community event including guest speakers and information stalls on women’s health. The postcards and referral forms will be launched at this event. Women will be able to register to attend specially arranged sessions for papscreening and breast screening, with interpreters present and transport provided.
