Counseling and support for families experiencing the effects of alcohol and drug abuse.

The Raft program provides a range of services to families whose lives have been disrupted due to drugs or alcohol. It aims to enhance and strengthen family relationships and wellbeing and to also assist the family respond to the drug dependent family member.
Family members may attend with or without the drug dependent family member.
Families with drug or alcohol dependent members often feel isolated, anxious and stressed. The issues they face in order to maintain relationships, the family unit and support the drug dependent person can be overwhelming.
Supporting families is important because:

  • Often the focus is on the member with drug or alcohol problems.
  • Families are a central resource to recovery.
    It is our role to assist family members in every way we can, as they deal with the drug or alcohol problem and its effects on their families.


The services provided include:

  • Counselling for parents, partners and children 
  • Support with developing strategies to deal with the drug problems.
  • Assistance in dealing with the impact the drug use on the family and their relationships.
  • Support with maintaining and enhancing relationships and connections.
  • Support with addressing issues that undermine family relationships. 
  • Assistance in identifying other programs and services that may benefit personal or family functioning.

Every family is different.
Raft’s service is tailored to the needs of families and individuals from diverse backgrounds, including indigenous, cultural and linguistic.
We have interpreters available for people whose first language is not English.
 
Other Raft services

  • Raft also provides a range of professional development services for people working in the health and welfare sector. 
  • Raft's counsellors provide secondary consultation and are involved in health promotion, education and delivery of group work programs. 

Counsellors can meet with families at other locations by arrangement.
 
Eligibility
Families experiencing difficulties as a result of drug or alcohol use and who live in the Northern Metropolitan Region: cities of Banyule, Darebin, Hume, Moreland, Nillumbik, Whittlesea and Yarra.
