Therapeutic exercise to manage injury and physical dysfunction for greatest effectiveness.

Physiotherapists assist people to return to full activity after illness or injury, working with the client to achieve the best possible result. We help people at every stage of life from babies to the elderly.

 

Conditions Treated

  • Individual assessment and treatment (on a short-term basis only) is provided to assist people with:
    • back and neck pain
    • muscle and joint sprains and strains
    • rehabilitation following surgery such as hip or knee repairs and / or replacements
    • fractures or dislocations
    • mobility problems and / or need for walking aids
    • chest conditions
    • incontinence (particularly for women following childbirth or later in life)
    • balance problem

 

  • Groups or Individual Exercises

Exercise plays a large part in self-managing your condition. Physiotherapists are able to prescribe various exercise programs according to individual needs, or refer clients to a range of exercise options within the community such as walking groups, yoga and water exercise. Limited supervised home-based exercises programs are provided for certain home bound clients.

    • The physiotherapy team runs a diverse range of exercise groups which include:
    • aqua physiotherapy (hydrotherapy with a physiotherapist)
    • stretch and strengthening
    • gentle gym class
    • tai chi for arthritis (designed by Dr Paul Lam)
    • chair-based exercise

 

Health Promotions, Education and Training

Partnership with Health Promotion Team on various projects including:

 

  • Running workshops for HACC Training Calendar (Northern Region) on:
    • Body At Work (Posture)
    • Manual Handling and Back Care
    • Assisted Transfers and Mobilities
    • Tai Chi for the Aged

 

Referrals

Although a medical referral is not essential for attending physiotherapy, a brief letter from your doctor outlining medical problems, medication prescribed and test results can assist us in our assessment and we encourage all clients to bring this to our first appointment.  All Physio referrals will be processed by Service Access staff.
