Life! Diabetes Prevention Courses

Quick Summary

If you have high blood pressure or high cholesterol, an increased waist size or a family history of diabetes you may be at risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

But studies have shown that you can prevent or delay the onset of diabetes by participating in a course such as Life!

Maintaining a healthy weight, getting physically active and following a healthy balanced eating plan can be difficult.  But participants doing a Life! program are more likely to be able to make changes because of the small group format and the health coaching training of many of our Life! course facilitators.  Life! courses help participants stay motivated and on track.

MCHS delivers Life! Diabetes Prevention courses throughout the year.  Each course runs over 6 sessions and includes time with a dietician, a physiotherapist and a nurse.  Individual attention is given to all participants helping them to develop achievable short term goals for exercise and healthy eating and longer term goals for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Who can do a Life! course?

  • You can attend a Life! course if you are aged over 40 and score 12 or more on the AUSDRISK test, a test that calculates your risk of developing type 2 diabetes.  A simple to use online version is available on the Diabetes Vic website or else ask your doctor or one of our course facilitators to assist you.

How much does a Life! course cost?

  • Courses are free if you earn under $67,000 a year, or $50 if you earn above this
