In 2006 MCHS supported a number of peer leaders to participate in a training course to become walking group leaders. In 2007 the number of peer leaders and walking groups grew, and in 2008 we partnered with Heart Foundation Walking to expand the walking group program to a record 7 walking groups throughout Moreland (and still counting!). The walking groups cater for all abilities and interests including pram walkers, fast walkers, slow walkers, over 50’s and general interest. Not only do the groups provide a free opportunity for community members to get their daily exercise in their local community, but they also provide a platform for social connection and friendship. We are interested to hear from community members interested in joining or leading a walking group.
