Food security in Moreland: A needs assessment

The Guide to Fresh Food in Moreland was developed in response to the Moreland Food Security Needs Assessment. Community members involved in the needs assessment felt that:

  • It would be useful to learn more about managing money
  • Local shops were too expensive
  • A guide to affordable shops in Moreland would be beneficial.

Twenty-two local businesses in Moreland offered discounts or home delivery for one year, between October 2009 and October 2010. The guide included maps showing the location of these businesses. The guides were given to local organisations to distribute to their clients with low income. The guides also included information on public transport routes to shopping centres and tips for seasonal shopping. In addition to the guide, MCHS and Moreland Community Legal Centre ran a budgeting workshop.
Please note that this pilot project is now complete and special offers are no longer being provided by the businesses involved.
MCHS gratefully acknowledges funding provided by Moreland City Council for this project.
