Engagement with Refugee and Newly Arrived Communities

Engagement with newly arrived communities to improve  health, wellbeing and access to health care services. Identify their health and wellbeing needs and improve access to mchs services.

From 2006-2008 the Moreland’s community has become home to over 2,000 people who have settled here from a variety of countries. The top 5 countries of origin are India, China, Pakistan, Lebanon and Iraq, and language groups (other than English) include Arabic, Mandarin, Chinese, Urdu and Assyrian. The needs of our newly arrived groups, especially those who are refugees (or seeking refugee status) are vastly different to our more established ethnic groups. Our Refugee and Newly Arrived Engagement Officer is establishing a profile of these groups within Moreland and building partnerships with ethno-specific agencies and community leaders. This work will ensure we are providing the right services, to the right people, in the right place.
